Despite the perils of paint tainted with lead in children’s toys, and poison in petfood products, the power of profit entices Canadian manufacturers into emerging markets which offer attractive growth opportunities. Fear, inexperience, and lack of a quality process control, causes less than one quarter of Canadian companies to enter the significant market potential of China, India, Russia, and South America. When functioning at the global level Canadian manufacturing companies can expect much higher revenue growth when taking advantage of emerging markets.

Canadian productivity level, which measures the amount of resources required to produce a product is stagnating. Increases in capital, labor, and raw materials produce barely any additional output. For the past five years, the output per hour in the Canadian business sector grew only 1% annually, down from 2.4 % in the previous five years. Canada has lost ground to international competition. Canadian business productivity is slipping relative to many members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Four decades ago Canada was ranked third, today 17th. The public and private sectors might work together on a productivity agenda that might include reduction in the federal debt-to-GDP ratio; elimination of inter-provincial trade barriers; removal of foreign ownership restrictions in key sectors; cutting the tax rate on capital; aligning immigration and economic objectives; greater investments in infrastructure, education and knowledge-based industries. Whether some or all of these productivity efforts transpire, profitability drives current free market capitalism.

The cost of materials and labor required to manufacture products tends to be far lower than in developed markets and the populations of the emerging markets represent significant revenue-earning potential, provided the manufacturer can adapt its product offering to the realities of that local market. It is difficult to ignore an Indian and Chinese population of more than two billion, seven times larger than all of North America. Ignoring these markets represent a significant missed opportunity for Canadian manufacturers.

Competition from international manufacturers working in emerging markets and exporting their goods to Canada creates a dramatic trade imbalance if these markets are ignored as global clientele. Thanks to the recent strengthening of the Canadian dollar, Canadian manufacturers could achieve a big boost in profitability. Most Canadian businesses are unprepared to deal with the rise of China as an economic power, according to a new study of manufacturers and exporters. Just over one third of the companies surveyed are already doing business with China, the majority of them with less than three years’ experience.

Fair and Balanced Myth - Three reasons why the media Bias Does not Matter

1. People have different opinions

In a world of 6 billion people and only a limited amount of time and space for the media to say what has happened to them in a single day, which obviously going to miss the final cut. The decision of what is newsworthy is very variable depending on the personal opinions of the participants. If you're liberal, you want to know to the starving children of Darfur and the latest economic proposal of Hugo Chavez. If you're conservative, you want to hear about the latest terrorist raid in Pakistan and global market trends.

What most Americans traditional studies of the political center is considered conservative by the standards European socialist rules by Lew Rockwell, Ralph Nader and fascist standards. This is why serious writers have written books called weapons of distortion: The Meltdown Majority the liberal media and liberal media thing? The truth on the diagonal and the News. This is also why some people think the media reporting on Iraq is the lack of respect betrayal of our troops, and others think it is an oil-driven company conspiracy to silence popular dissent. The uncomfortable fact is that true objectivity means - especially on political issues - is simply an illusion.

What happens is that those working in the media, as journalists, actors and writers, tend to have more liberal views than the average American. It also happens that people want to hear more than they do economists, experts or radio preachers, who tend to be more conservative than the average American. This does not mean that the media is a failure - It just means that different people think differently. It is the work of the average American to assess these different perspectives.

Objectivity is not a point correct view. It is the expression of each point of view.

2. The marketplace of ideas has a lot of options Everybody knows that about Shop informed consumers and to consider all your options. So why news consumers act differently?

The solution of media bias is the same solution for low product quality in any industry: Shop around. Ask friends and coworkers for their views on a topic. Go online and research the matter. Go to a newsstand and read different views on the subject. Those who assume the bias of the media is something to worry about the assumption that people are not able to make decisions for themselves. Anyone ignorant to be deceived by political bias of the media is ignorant as to be politically cheated by a spouse, a pastor, or boss. Who cares?

Perhaps bias media was a problem in 1954 when the average household had three TV channels, but in the modern Internet age, is nothing more than an imaginary crisis. 3. If in doubt, use your brain

For conservatives still moaning about the media bias is laughable. Yes, it probably is CNN and was always slightly skewed toward Democrats. So the solution is and was always let the market create a channel pro-Republican news, and let the two compete for viewers. Now Can we stop talking about bias in the media, already?

Aloud in response to negative, Bill O'Reilly ran a segment recently blame the media for their liberal bias. The most recent disappointment over a decision to interview an Obama Heckler said a furious tirade of Former President Bill Clinton during a campaign rally. By showing the former president of losing your calm, reasoned Mr. O'Reilly, the media was trying to undermine the Clintons. On the other hand, went to the conspiracy theory O'Reilly, interviewing the person who interrupted on television was "legitimate" their points of view for Obama, creating, in effect, a "paid commercial for Obama."

The problem with this was that for Heckler Obama was an idiot who was walking sense.Mr zero. O'Reilly even made fun of the lack of fellow intelligence, but it seems he took the viewing public U.S. was unable to make the same common-sense observation. Hiking Obama Heckler Clinton backlash makes more understandable, and indeed the supporters Obama idiots seem belligerent. But Mr. O'Reilly, looking out for the common man, was apparently less secure mental ability of its viewers.

Covered Call Writing Using the Buy Write Strategy

The buy write covered call is a slightly different strategy from the over write strategy, although the mechanics are identical in terms of outcome and follow on actions. The difference is in the strike price you choose and the period. In a previous article using the over write strategy, we looked at an example using British Airways, a UK share, but one which only had quarterly options available. There are some heavily traded UK equity options which are available monthly, but most UK options tend to be quarterly as the market is much smaller.

In the US, because the market is enormous, most stock will have monthly options and therefore I find this strategy lends itself better to the US markets. The stocks you are looking for are those that are trending sideways. Remember the idea with all call writing is to find a stock that you can write an option on which will then expire worthless, allowing you to repeat the exercise. You do not want shares or stocks that are shooting skywards!!!! - when you are looking at your charts look for shares that are moving in channels sideways, perhaps have hit some resistance - we do not want highly volatile stocks either ( you will need to become familiar with volatility - both historic and implied ) -the whole point of the strategy is NOT to be exercised. When you become more familiar with these things you will see that volatility and premium price are intertwined. It is obvious when you think about it - if a share moves violently all over the place it has a much higher chance of achieving the strike price and therefore will have a higher premium. This is particularly true on the US market - in the UK it is not so bad as those quoted are mainly FTSE 100. Please be careful, there are some real horrors. I would strongly suggest that you stay away from those in the pharmaceutical sector for example, as a new drug or a drug withdrawn can have dramatic effects on the stock price.

So, we are looking for stocks with relatively low volatility, and preferably in the top 500 -1000 US companies by market capitalisation. They should be moving sideways on the charts in a channel in a neutral to slightly bullish trend ( after all you don't want to be buying a stock that you should be shorting!! ). Having identified possible candidates you then check their option series and look for the next month and the next available strike price out of the money. Lets take Dell computers as an example. Share price : June 21st Dell $24.08, - July Call Option :Strike Price : $25.00, Call Option : $ 0.40

We would therefore buy 100 Dell shares at 24.08 and at the same time write a call option with a strike price at 25.00. giving us a premium of $40. If the share price increases and we are exercised we have a profit of 0.92 x 100 + 0.40 x 100 = $132 for the month. If the share price does not increase but remains the same or falls, the premium may offset some of the decline in price, and we can then write another call. The ideal of course is that the price closes close to the strike price, so we keep the premium and the shares, and then write another option at $25 which would have a much higher premium as the share price would then be 'almost in the money' which would give a much higher premium.

There are many ways to use this trading technique, but you also need to understand the Greeks, and implied/historic volatility in order to analyse the value of the premium that you are considering. Once you have started writing covered calls on a regular basis, you will discover numerous reasons why you might want to close or modify a position before expiry.. There are a whole variety of techniques that allow you to 'roll' positions forward, to take advantage of situations that may arise during the course of a contract.
