The market for insurance book publishing has changed in recent years. Gone are the days in which a writer he had an idea, throwing more than a dozen publishers in the hope of getting a contract before moving to the next project. Today, the writer the book has a multitude of publishing options, both traditional and non-traditional book markets to sell their wares.
While traditional publishing remains a difficult task for the newcomers, mostly open to experienced and famous authors, almost anyone with a good idea and writing ability is right in your print job today.
nontraditional options such as the publication of electronic books are giving the newcomer an opportunity to showcase their talents, and give the readers more and more variety. Electronics (more commonly known as e-books), can range from a long novel or a reference book published a small brochure style. They are available for download in computer, and can be read on screen or printed for a more conventional reading. Popular today is younger, more techno-savvy people, the traditional book Many fans prefer the appearance of holding a "real" book. However, the advent of e-book has made it possible for publishers to make thousands of titles available each month at very little cost.
This, of course, translates into much lower payment for writers who receive only a fraction of the rate a 50-write the whole book which would be a traditional manuscript. publishers in most cases, e-book also purchased all rights to the material, negating the writer of any royalty payments for future or alternative work. E-books, however, tend to be easier (and faster) to write, which allows the writer to make a or more than one month, compared with a year or two, even for the most prolific author of printing.
Regardless of the publication of place as a writer chooses to market its services in writing, a solid well thought out, the proposal still needed to convince any publisher that what is needed to get the job done.
The standard book proposal is just that, a proposal to a publisher for an idea you have for a book. It describes the project a clear and concise manner that shows the editor that you are the only writer for the job. In preparing its proposal for a book, remember to include these key elements:
In the Introduction: Enter your project using vivid language and compelling. This is his selling point. Short and concise, should include all major outlets project: the need for a book on this subject in particular, unusual or unique fonts you may have that others do not, the inclination or angle of the book, the public objective and / or marketing value, and a small biography that sells to the publisher.
Chapter by chapter outline: Here, you have the opportunity to really demonstrate that you have thought through the project and how you will manage complete.
Sample Chapters: If you have awakened the attention of the editor is enough to get this far in its proposal, then you need to demonstrate that he or she made you as a writer. Include complete 2-3 sample chapters of the book you are proposing. Always include the first chapter, or a lead for the project, as this is the first thing a potential reader will be less, but the other two are up to you. Includes the first three chapters, if you like, or a way of beginning, middle and end. It all depends on you. Just make sure that each chapter is the best you can do. After all, even a perfect proposal does not go away it is writing the current chapter is not up to par.
Author Bio Box: In this last section, you have the opportunity to sell yourself! Includes an extensive resume and a list of previous work published. Explain what you can give to this project than any other writer can. Seal of the offer. Make the editor thinks you and only you can pull out of this book.
In today's world of fast-paced publishing, there are thousands of writers trying to sell thousands of projects every day. While the market is open the whole world right now, thanks to the alternative publishing options, still necessary for the professional writer to submit quality work in order to succeed in the writer's life. Learn how to write book proposals first level and see the offers come rolling in.
What Jobs are Available to Culinary Institute Graduates
Most students judge the value of an education by the impact it will have on their future. In other words, before committing to a degree program, real people first want to know what kind of jobs this degree will help them obtain. Getting your education from a culinary institute opens the doors to a wide variety of jobs, several of which are listed below.
Fast food, short order, and other basic cook positions
There are an amazing number of cook positions available in the food service industry. These jobs range from, on the low end, cooks at fast food and low cost restaurants, to the high end, which includes the chefs at more prestigious establishments. Although many of the low end chef positions are available to unskilled laborers, the higher the quality of the food prepared, and the higher the chef's income, the greater the demand for educated cooks. A degree from a culinary institute can help you meet that demand, and help you land a higher end job.
Head chef
The position of head chef is a perfect place for someone with leadership skills, who enjoys having a little more responsibility in the workplace. As head chef, you will have more control over menu selections, preparation styles and ingredients, and other aspects of the culinary arts.
Private chef
Many people find working as a private chef to an individual family or a small institution is preferable in several different ways. First, the atmosphere a private chef encounters is typically very different than an employee in a bustling commercial kitchen. Also, private chefs tend to have an easier time selecting food choices, as they have the needs and preferences of only a few people to consider.
Menu planners and test kitchen chefs
Menus don't make themselves up. A lot of preparation goes into planning even the simplest of menus, and many culinary businesses hire specialists to handle the job. Menu planners do exactly what you might think, which is to plan out a menu. Test kitchen chefs come up with the recipes for dishes the restaurant will offer.
Food marketing
Advertising requires yet another food specialist, in this case, a person known as a food stylist. A food stylist is responsible for preparing photogenic food, meals and desserts that will photograph well and entice customers to buy them. Other positions in food advertising may require the food marketer to design visual advertising layouts, prepare slogans and jingles, and handle other steps of the marketing process.
Management of the culinary arts
If you consider yourself to be extremely ambitious, this might be just the job for you. Look for a culinary institute that offers a bachelor's program in management of a culinary business; such a program will combine the typical associate's degree in the culinary arts with a curriculum that teaches upper level management skills.
Food writer
Not all jobs in the culinary arts have to do with the preparation of the food. Some culinary careers deal with other aspects of the field. A good example is a food writer. Food writers come in many varieties: some review restaurants or write about different cuisines, while others write recipe or how to books. Regardless of what facet of food a writer specializes in, an education from a culinary institute helps by verifying that the writer really knows what he or she is talking about.
These are only a few of the most common positions available to graduates of a culinary institute. A culinary degree allows career goers plenty of flexibility when entering the work force or changing careers, making a cooking school an ideal place to start from when seeking a new or improved career.

The 5 Worst Reasons To Earn An Online College Degree
There are some excellent reasons that you might want to earn an online college degree. There are also some terrible ones, and if you have any of these in the back of your mind, it's time to think again.
Reason 1: I'm very shy & quiet; if I get my degree online I won't have to interact with people.
While it's true that studying for an online degree involves less face-to-face contact with fellow-students, or teachers, it's a myth that no interaction is required. Particularly for a bachelor's degree, where you'll be taking a wider range of courses and spending less time on individual in-depth projects, most of your classes will involve very real interaction.
Since you'll be studying online, that interaction takes different forms. Whether it's through email lists; virtual classroom software; bulletin boards; social networking; or forums; distance learning is likely to require you to take an active role in debate and discussion. You may be sitting alone in your room, but in a very real sense you'll be surrounded by students. Their ideas and questions will enrich your education -- and their education will be similarly enriched by yours.
Reason 2: It'll be easy, because I don't have to go to class.
You certainly don't have to fly out of bed; run a comb through your hair, throw clothes on; and dash out the house to the bus stop in order to make that 8:00 am Intro to Statistics class. For which, incidentally, you should be very grateful. However, many of your classes will involve regularly scheduled lectures and seminars which you'll be required to attend.
It's true that, unlike online courses a decade or so ago, you may be able to review those lectures at a time that's convenient to you. This flexibility, known as asynchronous learning, allows you to schedule your time more efficiently and is one of the great benefits of distance education. But this flexibility also demands self-discipline. You'll still be responsible for completing the material and there are likely to be regular assignments designed to keep your progress on track; the college doesn't want you to fall behind.
Reason 3: I'm a computer expert, so learning online will be simple.
A thorough knowledge of computers is helpful in almost any field and it certainly won't hurt your online studies, particularly if you're focusing on technology or programming. But you do not need to be a computer whiz to earn an online college degree. If you are comfortable browsing the Web; sending email; writing and saving a document; and chatting via instant messenger; you'll be quite capable of completing any of your online courses.
Online schools realize that in order for their students to succeed, and to continue their studies, the user experience must be pleasant. Frustration will lead to students dropping out, so most programs offer extensive support; online tutors who can walk you through software; 24 hour help desks, and more.
Reason 4: It'll be quicker to earn my degree online.
There are accelerated online degree programs, just as there are in traditional brick and mortar schools. Conversely, many online students choose to progress at a slower speed, allowing them to fulfill career and family obligations simultaneously as they earn their degrees.
The work load for any specific online class is unlikely to be lighter than that for the traditional equivalent. Students who have combined online and traditional courses in their degree work report that study time and assignments are largely comparable. Of course, some schools are less demanding than others, and the same is true of different classes and departments.
Again however, this is no different to the situation for a traditional student; you'll be the one to decide the speed of your progress, and the rigor of your course load.
Reason 5: Online colleges are lower-quality, so the classes will be easier.
For some years, there were online degree programs that had the reputation of giving degrees in exchange for a little effort, and a lot of cash. This phenomenon of "degree mills" still exists, but it is a miniscule part of the picture. If you restrict your choice of schools to accredited colleges and universities then your degree will be absolutely equivalent to a traditional degree. Neither your transcript, nor your diploma, will specify whether you studied online or not.
Therefore, the quality of your education will depend on two main factors. The first factor is the quality and reputation of the school you choose. Thousands of schools around the world now offer at least some college credit classes online. You can choose to study at Harvard; at your state university; or at a local community college; it all depends on you and what you're looking for in your education.
The second -- and most vital -- factor is your commitment, and the effort you put in. If you're a good student, and you take your class responsibilities seriously, you'll succeed. You'll earn an online college degree you can be proud of from any accredited school you choose to attend -- even if the only time you actually walk through the gates of the college is to receive your diploma.

A Journey into the Heroic Environment: A Personal Guide to Creating a Work Environment Built on Shared Values, 3rd Edition
Rob Lebow (SelectBooks, New York 2004 1590790618) $21.95
REVIEWED BY SHARIF KHAN
Living in what Alan Greenspan called an era of "infectious greed" with corporate titans facing serious jail time, Ex-WorldCom CEO, Bernard Ebbers, leading the way facing life behind bars, and sobering laws in place such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act making ethics and values increasingly important components in every organization, it would do well to learn how to help organizations create heroic environments based on higher standards of excellence. Mr. Rob Lebow, former Director of Corporate Communications for Microsoft, with over twenty years experience helping companies implement his Shared Values Process to create what he calls, a Freedom-Based Workplace, attempts to do just that for readers in his book, "A Journey into the Heroic Environment."
Resurrecting an abandoned, 'failed,' 1972 study, undertaken by graduate students from the social psychology department of a major United States university, with over 17 million survey responses from workers and managers in 40 countries and over 32 Standard Industrial Codes, that was not able to reveal any conclusive connection between job satisfaction and individual or organizational performance, Mr. Lebow's research team started their own investigation.
Bringing a fresh perspective to the study, Lebow realized that the key to solving the mystery of overcoming cultural challenges to create exceptional levels of performance, was not going to be found in the hard numbers and statistics of the survey, but in the actual, literal comments of all the participants. Using this creative intelligence, Lebow indexed the most often addressed topics in all the discarded surveys by country. And the revelation was that all the surveys from the different countries mentioned the same subjects. This became the Lebow Company's 20th Century Rosetta Stone that finally cracked the code to the secrets of unlocking high performance that were embedded in the previously undecipherable 17 million worldwide surveys that the original research missed.
Under the scrutiny of this new lens, the Lebow research group discovered that it was Values, not job satisfaction issues, which resided at the core between performance and what managers and workers were really looking for. Lebow's research suggested that there were eight values that all people respected throughout the world regardless of race, religion, nationality, industry, gender, educational level, or organizational status. Furthermore, the Lebow research group concluded: "that these eight Shared Values...represent the major factors that contribute not only to job satisfaction and employee morale, but to an organization's performance, competitiveness, speed to change, innovation at every level, willingness to learn new things, and overall operational success. [That] this was the universal Cultural Return On Investment (ROI) linking people to performance."
While the author does not mention exactly how he came to this revolutionary conclusion, he claims that the correlation between organizational performance and these Shared Values has been tested and validated with over 2,300 organizational sites. These universal Shared Values which Lebow calls The Eight Principles of the Heroic Environment ® are as follows:
1. Treat others with uncompromising truth.
2. Lavish trust on your associates.
3. Mentor unselfishly (and be open to mentoring from anyone).
4. Be receptive to new ideas, regardless of their origin.
5. Take personal risks for the organization's sake.
6. Give credit where it's due.
7. Do not touch dishonest dollars. (Be honest and ethical in all matters).
8. Put the interests of others before your own.
So that's the Big secret? Sounds like the everyday sage advice that a Corporate Yoda would give to his executive team of Jedi knights. Admittedly, this is something we all know and have heard before. They are timeless principles - psychic energy patterns memorialized in the collective unconscious - embedded in human experience itself. But how many of us actually practice these principles?
What makes this work significant is not the list of values which are bandied about at boardroom meetings and showcased on fancy plaques, but the Process ("acting Heroically is a process") that the Lebow research group has engineered in implementing these Shared Values company-wide through stories, examples, illustrations, charts, graphs, ways of communication, and sequential steps to follow. Lebow provides readers with practical tools they can use to actually practice these principles in transforming their corporate culture into a heroic environment.
So what does a 'heroic environment' look like? Lebow gives us a model, a vision, to look forward to: "Imagine what would happen in a work environment if people were given the freedom to act the way they really wanted to act - with courage, creativity, and independence from fear of criticism, or worse. And when people are respected and appreciated, they want to contribute even more, to rise to their true potential. I call that kind of place - a place where people act heroically - a Heroic Environment."
I was skeptical at first with this rather rosy picture - feeling that employees given too much freedom would slack-off or go into their own little dream-world. But after finishing the book, I felt Lebow had pulled it off, in terms of providing tools that managers, employees, and consultants can use in transforming corporate culture for the better. After all, people don't get up in the morning wanting to fail; they want to feel significant - knowing they've done a job well-done.
One of the main tenets of the book is that the traditional corporate approach of solving problems from the top down is the kiss-of-death. Frontline workers need to be given autonomy, responsibility, and accountability to solve problems themselves, letting the customer's needs, rather than the company's policies, drive each transaction. To accomplish this, 'only hire people you trust, but once you've hired them, trust them.' Management's role is simply to encourage people on the frontlines to experiment and explore new ideas on their own. The best way to manage is to let go and let great, not stepping in to fix problems or criticizing, but to examine the breakdown of the workflow and empowering frontline workers to make their own decisions and changes by providing them with the necessary resources.
According to Lebow, this is the only way to bring back respect to the phrase, "Made in America." He recounts how Toyota's plant workers average 50 changes every two and a half shifts, which would give most American managers a nosebleed. In America, Lebow states, fixing problems is management's job! In contrast, by empowering its frontline people to experiment, fix problems, and make continual proactive changes without fear of failure, Toyota is now financially worth more than Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler-Mercedes all put together. To put things in perspective, Lebow goes on to point out that it took Ford about nine months to make a change to their production line, while it only took Toyota three and one-half hours!
Overall, A Journey into the Heroic Environment, accomplishes its main purpose in serving as a guide to creating a Freedom-Based work environment built on Shared Values. This is not an academic book or scholarly read, nor is it a scientific journal. Use the information and The Personal Work Style Assessment™ (included in the book) to formulate your own hypotheses and come up with your own conclusions. The book itself, from start-to-finish, can be considered a case study in corporate transformation told in the form of a business story with a chance meeting between John, a disgruntled assistant plant manager of a telecommunications company, and Kip, a mysterious, senior executive mentor figure. The book is simple in its approach, but not simplistic; easy-to-read, but certainly not easy to implement. I highly recommend this book as a path to a rewarding journey that will open up the soul to a brave new heroic world.

Slow Windows - Defragment Disk And Speed Up Your Windows
Have you ever been annoyed by the slower and slower speed of your computer? And, do you have to spend more and more time waiting for computer starting up or opening a file? If so, you have to face reality that your computer needs to defragment.
If you still do not have any idea of defragmentation, this is the article that can help you in this regard. I am willing to share my understanding of defragmentation.
During using computer every day, it is inevitably that the disk has to perform numerous read-write operations. It is easily to produce a lot of fragments. As time goes by, they are piling larger and larger so that hinder the speed of computer. And, let us see specific details of defragmenting disk.
Fragments are result from creating or deleting files and folders, installing new software or downloading files from Internet and so on. More fragments are piling in the disk, slower computer inputting and outputting performance becomes. Generally, disk fragments are divided into two types: file fragment and available space fragments.
File fragments are produced by deleting or moving the files. If they are not restored continuously but separately in the disk, it will take excessive time for disk head to move among different points in the disk when reading those dispersed files. If such thing continues to happen, it can slow disk and computer performance for sure. This is the main reason that your system has to spend more time in reading or starting computer.
Available space of disk is those you have not used. In the ideal situation, such space should be continuous and available, but if they are divided into fragments, it is not good news for the disk. Space available fragments mean that files spaces are dismembered into many pieces so the disk head has to search for available spaces back and forth and then write files. What is worse, if the space available fragments are larger than that of disk you want to write in, it is probably to increase the number of file fragments.
After learning that, have you realized how importance of defragmenting disk is? If you want to speed up your computer, you should defragment hard disk regularly. And, you can click here to learn more about how to speed up PC, there is a lot of useful information to help you.

Brochure Printing Tips That Will Help You at the Printer
Even if you design your own brochures, you will still need to work with a brochure printing company to get them printed. This means you should know a thing or two about some considerations that go into brochure printing. Here is a brief summary of the basics you need to know when designing your brochure so that when you deal with a printer, you will not hit any snags in the process.
You need to know your print size
If you are planning on printing a flyer that is slightly larger than normal (to help it stand out from the crowd), do not use an 8.5” x 11” template in your design software. The printer could enlarge the design to fit the paper, but then the design will look distorted and everything will be stretched out. Make sure you are designing in a template for the finished paper size. The same goes for designing on a template that is bigger than the final paper size. Shrinking your images and text would not look good or be easily read.
Give your design room to bleed
A print bleed is simply extending the color of the sides of your design to go beyond the edge of the paper. The bleed accounts for any variance the printer might have while cutting your brochure.
Your brochures will be printed on a huge web of paper and then your brochures will be cut from that one piece of paper. The blade that cuts each brochure is usually very precise, but when it is cutting thousands of pieces, it is bound to fluctuate a little.
By designing your brochure with an extra 1/8th inch of color beyond the edges, you can make sure none of your brochures have any white on the edges.
High resolution images are critical
If you do not use high-resolution images in your design, your brochure would not look very professional. Your image will be blurry or even pixilated and people might not be able to tell what it is. The images on your computer are only 72 dpi (dots-per-inch), which works well on computers, but look horrible on paper.
For your images to look good on paper, you need to save them as at least 300 dpi in your imaging or designing software. You can find free stock photos on the Internet by searching for “free stock photos” in any search engine like Yahoo or Google. Some Web sites even offer free high-resolution pictures you can use in your brochure. Just make sure you read the agreement that goes along with the photo – you may need to give the photographer a small credit line along the bottom or side of the photo.
Choose the right kind of paper
There are a plethora of paper choices out there for you to print your brochure on. Most printers recommend using 80lb or 100lb stock paper. Using heavier paper means there is less chance for readers to see through to the next panel of your brochure and heavier paper gives off a more professional feeling. You also might want to choose heavier paper if you have a lot of ink (images) in your brochure so that there is less chance of see-through.
Use original fonts
Use fonts that are easy to read, but yet have not been used over and over by other companies. Fonts are being created all the time – you are not limited to the fonts that came with your design software. A couple of my favorite Web sites that have free font downloads are www.1001freefonts.com (you can search by category, such as comic, handwriting and retro) or www.dafont.com (these categories are a little more creative, such as Chinese- or foreign-looking fonts or fonts designed for holidays, like the Valentine’s Day font with hearts galore). You can also buy a whole catalog of fonts for a low price at most font Web sites. You can get 7,000 fonts for $20 at 1001 Free Fonts.
Your brochures are part of your brand, part of your company’s identity. A well-designed brochure that is professionally printed can bring you tons of sales, so take the time to plan it and design it properly.
