Focus on the Future: Lamar University and Higher Ed Holdings Association

Eighteen months ago Lamar University College of Education and Human Development entered into a partnership with a service provider, Higher Ed Holdings, to offer a Master of Education in educational administration and teacher leadership through an innovative web-based delivery system. A master degree in Educational Technology Leadership has recently been added. The Lamar University Academic Association (luap) was created for several purposes, to address the need for affordable, accessible master’s for teachers throughout the state of Texas to strengthen Lamar programs through careful study and application of best practices in the areas of instructional content and innovative design to delivery, and to increase enrollment in master’s programs at Lamar University. It is clear that we have succeeded in these areas and we must use a continuous improvement model to address the many challenges that the program on a daily basis. Many of the rewarding aspects of luap fewer results of efforts aimed at meeting the three objectives cited above. Examples include increased collaboration of teachers, development of the exceptional power, a greater understanding of communication problems in web-based teaching, student support, and implementation of strategies to address these challenges. Lamar University is in Beaumont, Texas, eight miles from the Louisiana border. North Lamar is a respected regional institution serving Northeast Texas. As an institution of national regional, serve Southeast Texas, but to survive in an era of declining state funding, to overcome our losses from the effects of several destructive hurricanes, and to improve and enhance our faculty and our programs, it is clear Lamar had to go beyond our region. The service provider, Higher Ed Holdings, offers teaching platform for the delivery of Lamar master degree courses, attendance course production, and marketing services, there are three aspects of the new programming costly that our university would have difficulty providing. After extensive study and debate, a group of professors of Educational Administration and Professional Programs of Education, according to the plans to grade and course development. Education Administration worked with the existing degree plan. Professional Education after to study the current master’s programs in a primary and secondary education to enhance research and update curricula to better meet needs of current teachers. The teacher leadership program was developed and sent through the academic review and approval channels. Leadership Share educational leadership and teaching of a core of five, three time fields and each program has only 21 hours. Courses are offered in a continuous cycle with a kind of entry required offered each session. Sessions of five weeks and given the intensity, students can only take a course of a meeting. Students who choose to remain continuously enrolled can complete the sequence of 18 months. Many students choose to take any other course or delay some courses and have more time for program completion.

The faculty of Lamar University screenwriting course, visual plan, design activities, discussion forum write instructions and questions, and reading selection. Coaches are people, with at least one title master’s in education and many are pursuing or have a doctorate in education. Faculty must work with the coaches and the department head to resolve conflicts grade, following the appeals process from Lamar University. Instructors must refresher training when necessary.

Lamar is successful with this program because Faculty of Education have collaborated actively and participate in continuing professional development. As indicated above, Most courses are developed by two or more teachers and in the case of basic courses at least two professors from different departments. The exchange of knowledge, ideas for learning activities, assessment and recommendations to improve the experiences of instructors involved. Each faculty member has indicated that their courses in the campus is much improved as a result of their collaboration. Benefits for students academic collaborative programs extend far beyond the affordability and accessibility. Students can access and listen to lectures as often you choose. Students script can also be downloaded and read the lectures and slides. This repetition benefits to many students and also handles a variety of modalities learning. Students have access to teachers through selected readings Lamar Library link where electronic files are stored. The readings are carefully selected to support the weekly themes and tasks and to reinforce learning. In many classrooms, student assignments require actual data collection, the data analysis, and recommendations for the campus of a student. These projects focus on the choice of problem in question and allow students to implement immediately the content they are learning. Students participate in discussion forums in each course, support one another and often learning new skills and the exchange of ideas across districts statewide. Students have personal tutoring of academic coaches and academic support staff Lamar Association and opportunities to seek clarification and explanations of teachers responsible for courses. The culminating experience portfolio in instructional leadership and practice / experiences of the portfolio in Educational Administration requires students to reflect on learning new applications of new learning, and for planning future learning activities and careers. Lifelong learning, critical thinking and creative problem solving are the results obtained by the Association Scholars.

This database will serve as a important source of information to answer research questions constructed by faculty and doctoral students involved in program evaluation and study education and eLearning.

While at this point we have anecdotal records of success, we are aware that the rules on reporting Accounts require data to support such as comparisons of the allocation of students in courses that are web based and Campus-Based. We are collecting the samples. The program of Educational Administration we will soon have the first round of the state certification test data for analysis. Reviews Online courses are collected for all courses at Lamar University, web-based and Campus-Based. These evaluations will be analyzed carefully and the answers collected. We are also collecting student self-report data through a portfolio requirement completion. The evaluation process provides ongoing research opportunities for faculty and program improvement.

Where do we go from here? Our main objective is to maintain quality in courses to ensure learning outcomes, teachers enhance interactions between students and students continue to improve services. There are some additional programs studied to determine its suitability for the delivery system of Academic Association. The Lamar University faculty and staff are more intrigued by the shortcomings ethical and professional in the electronic communication of students who rarely occur with students face to face. This will be an area of future study in our research on electronic learning. Many faculty members from Lamar University education are adapting to the unique challenges of a model for academic collaboration and accept this approach as an avenue for student learning. All teachers participating in the Partnership also teach to face to face classes, are citizens of the production department, and participate in college and university service. The participation of faculty members Academic Association in showing a willingness to model lifelong learning for students and to address future trends facing higher education: the shortage of funds, a growing and increasingly diverse student population, a demand for more creative approaches to program development and the need for the currency in understanding and use of new technologies for teaching.
